Rafael Romero Peña (1988, ES/NL) is a visual artist, writer, and filmmaker based in Rotterdam. His work explores the concept of “gaze” and its deconstruction through sculpture, writing, and film. Rafael is particularly interested in how contextual images are staged or depicted through the sociopolitical biographies of objects, architecture, and collective memory. He frequently uses storytelling and fiction to examine themes of legacy, belonging, and heritage.
His work is part of the Association of European Cinematheques Archive and has been showcased at international venues including the Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla, the Transatlantyk Festival in Łódź, the Kolkata International Film Festival in India, and the Fotofocus Symposium Biennial in Cincinnati, USA.
